At Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize, we offer a variety of certification options designed to fit your schedule and skill level. From quick introductions to comprehensive training programs, Belize’s barrier reef provides the perfect setting for your underwater journey.

Getting Started With Scuba In Belize

Most courses include an online portion known as eLearning, which you can complete at your own pace before arriving in Belize. Then, you’ll move on to practice skills with instructors in real-world environments, including the stunning waters of the southern barrier reef.

With that foundation, let’s break down what you can expect for each type of certifiable training.

Open Water Training

PADI Scuba Diver Course

For those who want a structured yet efficient path to begin exploring the underwater world, the PADI Scuba Diver Certification is a great option. This course includes both academic diving theory and shallow water practice, followed by real dives to build confidence and skills. At Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize, this course typically takes about 1 full day to complete once the online portion is done.

This certification is perfect for beginners who want to start diving under the supervision of a PADI dive professional to a restricted depth of 40ft. You will learn essential scuba skills, how to handle your equipment, and basic dive planning, all in the warm, clear Caribbean waters.

PADI Open Water Course

If you want the most widely recognized scuba certification, the PADI Open Water Course is the gold standard. This program combines academic learning with confined water (shallow water) training and a series of open water dives. At Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize, we structure the course so you can complete the 4 to 6 hours of eLearning before you arrive, allowing you to focus on hands on training once you are in Belize. The rest of the course typically takes around 1.5 days to complete underwater training and open water dives.

PADI Junior Open Water Course

Younger adventurers aren’t left out either. The PADI Junior Open Water Course follows the same structure as the regular open water course, 4 to 6 hours spent on the online portion and about 1.5 days dedicated to confined and open water training. This makes it an excellent choice for kids 10 years old and up, who want to experience the aquatic world safely and with confidence.

Advanced And Specialty Training

PADI Advanced Open Water

For divers who already have their Open Water certification and want to take their skills further, the Advanced course is a thrilling next step. This program allows you to expand your diving skills through a series of adventure dives that hone your techniques and introduce you to different underwater experiences. The eLearning component of this certification takes about 4-6 hours by itself. At Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize, this course generally takes about 2 days to complete.

You’ll get to try out deeper dives, navigate through diverse environments, and practice advanced techniques, all while surrounded by the natural wonders of the Belize Barrier Reef.

PADI Rescue Diver eLearning

Once you have some experience under your belt, the PADI Rescue Diver course can be a transformative next step. This certification focuses on diver safety, awareness, and assisting others in the water. Provided the eLearning portion is done ahead of time, the water component generally takes 2 to 3 days to complete if undertaken locally or while you’re in Belize, equipping you with both knowledge and confidence to handle potential challenges.

Professional Level: Divemaster Internship

If you’re serious about diving and potentially turning your passion into a career, the Divemaster Internship is the certification that lets you learn at home through the eLearning and DM CrewPak, then once in paradise you will work alongside professionals to give you a real idea of what it’s like working in the diving industry. This professional-level training takes significantly longer than entry-level courses, requiring several weeks to complete. During this internship, you will develop your skills and knowledge to guide others, assist instructors, and gain real-world experience as part of the local dive team.
