Why Learn to Dive in Belize

Few places make learning to dive easier than San Pedro. The water stays warm all year, and visibility often reaches 80 feet or more. Calm, shallow sites inside the reef give new divers room to practice without strong currents or deep drop-offs. Most people learn in murky lakes or cold quarries. You get to learn next to the second largest barrier reef in the world.

Your training doesn’t stop at a certification card. The day after your final course dive, you head out as a certified diver. That includes a trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where your first dives as a new diver could include turtles, nurse sharks, and stingrays. Scuba School Belize instructors stay with you from your first breath underwater to your last dive of the trip.

Frequently Asked Questions About the PADI Adventure Package

How old do you need to be for the PADI Adventure Package?

PADI allows divers to start Open Water training at age 10. Divers ages 10 to 14 earn a Junior Open Water certification, which upgrades automatically at 15. Families with younger kids can check out our PADI Junior Open Water Course.

How deep can I dive after I’m certified?

PADI Open Water Divers can dive to 60 feet (18 meters) with a buddy. If you want to go deeper or explore sites like the Blue Hole later, the Advanced Open Water course is the next step.

When should I start PADI eLearning?

Sign up a few weeks before your trip. Most people finish the online sections in 8 to 12 hours at their own pace. Arriving with the theory done means more beach time and less classroom time.
