This course is the PADI Advanced Open Water Certification. All of the classroom work is done online via PADI’s e-learning program. This 5-dive course allows Open Water divers from ALL agencies to explore additional training. These dives are designed to enhance your diving skills. The water portion of this course includes five adventure dives. The navigation and deep adventure dives are required, but you can choose any of the adventures dives for the remaining 3 dives.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is one of the most popular ways for certified divers to expand their diving skills and experience deeper scuba diving. Designed to build confidence and refine your scuba skills, this PADI Advanced Open course introduces you to exciting forms of specialty diving while allowing you to have plenty of fun scuba diving in Belize.
The water portion of the course includes five adventure dives. Two of these, Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation, are required. The deep dive teaches you how to manage deep diving physiological effects, plan deeper dives safely, and use specialty gear like a dive computer and delayed surface marker buoy. The Underwater Navigation dive helps you master your underwater compass and develop precise orientation techniques underwater.
After completing the required dives, you’ll select three more adventure dives based on your interests. These can include:
- Digital Underwater Photography: Learn to use underwater photography equipment and capture amazing images.
- Peak Performance Buoyancy: Improve your buoyancy control and master efficient movement underwater.
- Wreck Diving: Explore historic wrecks safely while practicing advanced open water techniques.
- Night Diving: Experience the magic of the reef after dark with a dive light and see nocturnal creatures come alive.
- Underwater Naturalist: Identify local marine life and gain a deeper understanding of underwater ecosystems.
- Boat Diving: Learn how to enter and exit from a boat and handle scuba gear in different conditions.
Depending on the adventure dives you choose, you may also work with specialty gear such as lift bags, dry suits, dive lights, and digital underwater imaging equipment.
Prerequisites and Requirements
To enroll in the PADI Advanced Open Water course, you must already hold a qualifying certification such as PADI Open Water Diver. You don’t need extensive experience! Just a love for the ocean, basic scuba gear, and a willingness to learn.
Specialty Dives and Guidance
Under the direction of a certified PADI Instructor, you’ll gain practical experience across various adventure dives, enhance your scuba skills, and explore more of the underwater world. Each adventure dive builds on your previous training from the PADI Open Water Diver course and introduces new techniques covered in your diving manual.
